Introduction
Vaginal discharge is very common thing in women. Particularly it varies during women’s menstrual cycle. Before and after ovulation, in women’s body there are number of mucous produced, which are watery and elastic during that cycle. If discharge is normal then no need to worry. Let us see how will we decide that discharge is normal or not?

 

What is normal vaginal discharge?
In normal vaginal discharge, its flow is about 1 teaspoon within a day. Normal vaginal discharge is white or transparent, thick to thin and odorless. Because of normal discharge, vagina keeps clean, smooth and prevent from infection and some other germs. In menstrual cycle of the women, normal discharge is dark, brown or discolored for one day or two day. So, during that period if color of discharge is changed then no need to worry. 

  
What is an abnormal vaginal discharge?
Below are some symptoms of abnormal vaginal discharge.

  1. Vaginal discharge color has changed to green or yellow color like coated cheese.
  2. Some situations like menstrual cycle, emotional stress, pregnancy, sexual excitement, breast feeding and diabetes or because of some other infection, there are chances of abnormal vaginal discharge.
  3. If the flow of vaginal discharge is increased then normal vaginal discharge.
  4. Sometimes, you can see blood spotting on your panty in spite you are not in periods.
  5. Itching, burning, discomfort or any rash.
  6. Bed odor vaginal discharge with color is changed to yellowish, brownish or greenish white discharge.

 

How to prevent from vaginal discharge?

  1. Don’t wear tight panties, jeans, slacks, pantyhose and synthetic cloths. Wear cotton cloths. Cotton cloths can absorb water very fast. So, cotton clothes help keeps a vagina dry.
  2. Avoid the use of vaginal douches.    
  3. Keep vaginal area always dry. After urinal or any bowl movement clean that part with medicated wipes. In wet area, bacteria’s growth is very fast. In this situation, vaginal discharge is increased.
  4. Because of vaginal discharge one should feel itching, but don’t do that. It makes condition more badly.
  5. Take proper sleep, proper nutritious food and cleanness are good for vaginal health.
  6. Avoid the use of perfumed powder, sprays, bubble bath, scanted pads or toilet paper. Use mild soap.

 

When one should consult the doctor?

  1. Continuous abdomen pain for more then two hours
  2. If you have vaginal discharge and color is changed to green or yellow or you feel fever
  3. If you feel vaginal pain
  4. If you feel pain during sex and after sex

If you feel any above symptoms then immediately consult your doctor.

 

What treatment you should have to take in an abnormal vaginal discharge?
Now, many women take medicines themselves in abnormal vaginal discharge, because now medicines are available over the counter. So, no need of doctor’s prescription. If you are aware with the medicines and symptoms of abnormal discharge then and then you will take treatment yourself. But you are first time facing this problem then first consult your doctor.
Apply cream like miconazole or clotrimazole which are available over the counter. Don’t take stress.

Various natural cares for vaginal infection are also available. Yogurt is good for health. Especially it’s a good in vaginal discharge. So, eat more yogurts.
If you are diabetic patient then your blood sugars should be in control. One should have to use condoms, so there are a less chances of sexually transmitted diseases. You can take oral medications also. But for that you need doctor’s prescription. So, consult the doctor and get oral medication.

A lady who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not take any medicines before ask the doctor. So, they should have to consult their gynecologist first and then they have to take medicines.

Vaginal discharge is common among many adult women. If it lasts only for few days, then it can be ignored some times. However, prolonged discharge is a cause of concern. It definitely requires a physician’s attention than. As our elders say, it’s sometimes wise to consult the experts then to assume things.
